MISSIONS
2008 was an awesome year for the Missions at RLEFC! We entered 2008 with four goals and have successfully met all four of them:
Goals for 2008:
- Goal: Expand Food Pantry: We started 2008 with a very small food pantry. Over the summer, we renovated the closets in the Narthex and moved the food pantry there. Now folks have an inviting environment where they can pick up food and also an area where they can be prayed for. We more than doubled its size in early 2008 and then during the summer doubled the size again.
- Goal: Plan a short term mission trip: In November we performed a one day mission trip to Meeting Ground in November. Meeting Ground is a shelter for homeless women and families. The mission trip was well attended by more than 22 people from our congregation and was a huge impact to the mission agency.
- Goal: Increase the magnitude of missions we are doing in here in Delaware: This was accomplished by assisting the food delivery ministry. Each month we bring food to approx 80 families and invite them to come to church. (Please see the report written by Amy under Serving Ministries) for more details. Also, a Chinese Church is using our facilities rent free for their church services. (Please see their report in the missions section)
- Goal: Move toward a balanced mission’s budget in regards to international and regional missions: 45% of the budget for 2009 is designated for regional ministries.
- Other Accomplishment: Awesome and well attended missions fair: Our 2008 missions fair was a huge success. We had many of our missionaries in attendance and many of our congregation came through and spoke with the missionaries. Missy Wamble and Rebecca Armstrong were instrumental in allowing the children to come through and meet the missionaries as well.
- Other Accomplishment: Improved Missions Awareness: In 2008, we had at least seven of our missionaries come and address the congregation on a Sunday morning.
Goals for 2009
- Increased short term mission trips. We plan on increasing the number of short term mission trips in 2009.
- Improved awareness of missions in the entire congregation. We would like a much higher percentage of the congregation to know and understand what is occurring in our missions program and be involved in a part of it. We plan to do this through a number of dynamic multi-media presentations.
- Increase involvement of the youth and children’s ministry in missions: We would like the Sunday morning and Wednesday evening ministries to have a facet of missions.
